Boston to get 150 EV charging stations
Boston's Beltway is going to get a little greener--Coulomb Technologies will install 150 ChargePoint stations in the Boston metro area.
Paving the way for the wave of electric vehicles poised to enter the market, Coulomb Technologies announced that it will be installing 150 ChargePoint stations in the Boston metropolitan area.
The planned installations are part of Coulomb's $37 million ChargePoint America project funded by the Department of Energy. The 150 networked EV charging stations will be installed primarily within the Route 495 Beltway, and available for use by any ChargePoint member. After they are built and go online, drivers can find the stations using the ChargePoint iPhone, BlackBerry, or Android apps. TomTom GPS users will also be able to locate the new charging stations on their mobile devices.
Coinciding with the Boston expansion, BMW announced its partnership with Coulomb Technologies.
"Boston is an important city for BMW," explained a spokesperson for BMW. "It's one of the target markets for the ActiveE, and when they become available later this year, drivers can take advantage of the new EV charging infrastructure."
BMW unveiled the ActiveE electric sedan at the 2011 New York International Auto Show, which will be available for lease to drivers in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, Boston, and Connecticut.
