The new series of smart appliances will use the Home Connect standard to sync up with users, and each other.

BSH, the European manufacturer behind the Siemens and Bosch brands, made its long-awaited smart home ambitions official today at IFA. From the Bosch side of things, this means you can expect to start seeing connected "Series 8" ovens and dishwashers by December of this year. The new appliances will follow the Home Connect standard, granting users app-enabled controls and features.

These features include the usual slate of remote controls and service assistance, as well as a database of recipes and video tutorials to help even amateur home chefs branch out into new territory.

The Home Connect app, due out for iOS devices in November 2014 and Android devices in Q2 2015, promises to control all compatible appliances in the home. This includes ones from other brands that also use the Home Connect Standard, like Siemens, which announced its own set of smart appliances at IFA. The app also claims to offer model-specific assistance for certain non-connected appliances.

Pricing and availability of Bosch's new connected appliances isn't known just yet, but we'll update this piece as we hear more.
