Boot Camp Beta 1.0.2 (#5): Problems using target disk mode after removing Boot Camp

CNET staff

Some users are reporting an issue where they are unable to use their Intel-based Macs in target disk mode (the Intel-based Mac being the target disk) after removing Boot Camp using the Boot Camp Assistant, located in Applications/Utilities.

In some cases, this issue can be resolved via the use of rEFIt, boot menu and maintenance toolkit for Intel-based Macs, to synchronize the GPT and MBR partition tables.

Installing rEFIt requires the following steps:

Download and mount the rEFIt-0.7.dmg disk image, then copy the 'efi' folder from the disk image to the root level of your Mac OS X volume. Next, open the Terminal (located in Applications/Utilities) and enter the following commands:

  • cd /efi/refit
  • /enable.sh

After installing rEFIt, restart your Mac and you will automatically enter the software's menu. Next, run the tool "gptsync.efi" (available from the menu).
