Boost Mobile on Monday announced its latest Android-powered smartphone, the waterproof and dust-proof Kyocera Hydro Icon.

Powered by Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the Hydro Icon is an entry-level handset designed to take the beatings that come with summer. Be it a drop in the pool or falling out of a pocket, the MilSpec 810G and IP57-rated phone should take its licks in stride.

The Icon has a 4.5-inch display, 4G LTE, and 8GB internal storage (with microSD expansion). In terms of cameras, the it packs an 8-megapixel rear shooter and 2-megapixel front-facing selfie-snapper. Rounding out the hardware are a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, NFC (near-field communications), and a 2,000mAh battery with wireless charging capability.

Over on the software and customization front, the smartphone comes with Kyocera's Eco-Mode and MaxiMZR power-management apps. Also present is the Smart Sonic Receiver audio technology, which boosts the sound clarity in noisy environments.

The Kyocera Hydro Icon arrives on June 17 with a $150 price tag; the handset can be paired with any of Boost Mobile's new Monthly Unlimited Select rate plans.
