In France, if you need to know a good Wok recipe or how to conjugate a verb in the middle of the night, now there's an alternative to the Internet: the local vending machine.

Five new machines selling classics like "The Wok Cookbook" and "Verb Conjugations," alongside oldies "Alice in Wonderland" and Homer's "Odyssey," have been installed in locations in central Paris. The books sell for $2.45 each.

The publisher Maxi-Livres said the machines are as if "our stores were open 24 hours a day," in a report published by the Associated Press.
