Hey, petrolheads -- crack open the organic baby food! BMW's high-performance M division is expecting a cute bundle of automotive joy known as the 1-Series M coupe!

Actually, it's not cute at all. It's smaller than BMW's M3 or M5 offerings, but it'll snap your puny neck if you so much as look at it. The diminutive 1-Series M coupe, according to our German friends, has already lapped the Nordschliefe (Nurburgring's North circuit) in the same time as a BMW M3 -- no mean feat for a newborn.

The 1-series M coupe won't be christened the M1, as BMW wants to avoid confusion with the iconic 70s sports car of the same name. It's unlikely to let the M division's side down, though. It'll probably use an uprated version of the 3-litre turbocharged engine found in the badass BMW 135i M Sport, according to Evo.

The results should be fairly spectacular whichever engine is plugged in. Dr Kay Segler, CEO of BMW's M division, has promised, "You will not leave the car. You will not give the key to anybody else. You will smile. You will have goosepimples." That sounds more like a prescription than a prediction to us, but either way, we're definitely looking forward to this thing.
