BlackBerry Porsche P'9981 is a steel business blower
The Porsche Design BlackBerry P'9881 has been unveiled in Dubai, with a solid steel body. Seriously, you have to see this thing.
Steel yourself for what has to be one of the most interesting looking phones of the year, the BlackBerry Porsche Design P'9881. It's made of stainless steel and leather, but aside from that it's a regular old BlackBerry, with some pretty standard specs, TechCrunch reports.
But then that's always the way with this luxury gear: hideously gaudy exterior; pretty pedestrian insides.
The BlackBerry 7 OS has been given a new look, though again the changes are all cosmetic. It may have a custom Porsche Design font and icons, but it's still standard old BlackBerry 7. That BBX handset can't come soon enough.
Under the stainless steel bonnet are a 1GHz processor, and it has a 5-megapixel camera that's capable of 720p HD video. An NFC chip means you can communicate wirelessly with other handsets.
It was unveiled in Dubai, home of an Eiffel Tower that's taller than the Parisian one, so we suppose people living there might be more inclined than us humble Brits for this kind of thing. It's clearly not for everyone, with the availability listed as "restrictive". It'll be available to those select few before the end of the year for a trifling $2,000 (£1,250).
RIM has been in the wars of late, being sued by another company over its BBX name, as well as its own customers following the BBM outage that left them paralysed for three days. It also had to delay the PlayBook OS 2.0 update, and hold BBM for a later update, annoying customers even more.
