The "Alien" films introduced some fabulous fictional technology, but not everything was custom made. One example is the Seiko watch worn by Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley in "Aliens".

The Seiko Chronograph 7A28-7000 was released in 1983, three years before the movie's release, crafted by Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. The watch wasn't just notable as Ripley's timepiece of choice, though. It also contained Seiko's calibre 7A28 analog quartz chronograph movement, the first quartz chronograph.

It's not quite 30 years since the July 1986 release of "Aliens," a sequel to the original "Alien" from 1979, but Seiko Japan has re-released a limited run of Ripley's watch. The watch has been renamed the SCED035. Seiko Japan will also release a black version, the SCED037.

The 7A28-7000 and the SCED035 are not exactly the same. The re-issued watches will run on the newer calibre 7T12 analog quartz chronograph movement. The design is also slightly different on the SCED035, too, missing the crown and pusher on the left side of the case. This is to prevent accidental button presses.

Everything else about the watch, including the bracelet, remain the same. It's no shrinking violet of a timepiece, the case measuring 42.2mm by 41.8mm. It is 10.8mm thick. It boasts water resistance to 100 metres and five years of battery life. It also includes a 24-hour hand and a stopwatch function.

The SCED035 and SCED037 are each limited to 3,000 pieces, selling for 32,000 Japanese yen ($260) and 36,000 yen ($290), respectively.
