<b>G3 Mac Ethernet problem

Peter Haase recently purchased several G3/266 DT machines. He has them connected to an Ethernet network. He complains that if he leaves any of them running overnight, they are usually frozen solid in the morning. Not even Command-Control-Power brings them back. He needs to pull the plug on them (and put the plug back in of course) before he can restart the machines. This never happens during the day. Only at night (that is, during long periods of idle activity). Additionally, when he returns in the morning, there is usually a message on the screen that reads "Your AppleTalk network has been disconnected."

Peter received a reply from Apple on this matter. He was told that they are aware of the problem but have no fix for it yet. They do not know when a fix will be coming. Meanwhile, Peter solved the problem by switching from Apple's built-in Ethernet to a Farallon PCI 10/100 card. After that, the freezes disappeared.

This appears to be a separate issue from the one addressed by Apple's G3 Ethernet 2.0.1 (as described here last December).
