Best new phones, tablets and more from MWC in Podcast 328

In this podcast brought to you from Barcelona, the team set aside their keyboards to bring you their highlights from MWC.

As the dust settled on Mobile World Congress 2013 and the Barcelona's Fira Gran Via emptied itself of the world's tech press, the CNET UK crew huddled around microphones to reflect on the week's events.

In this podcast brought to you not quite live from not so sunny Spain, Rich, Luke and Andrew set aside their keyboards to sink their teeth into the week's launches and spit out the juiciest analysis you're likely to find anywhere.

Operating systems looking to challenge the dominance of Apple and Google were big news at this year's show, and the chaps were various mixes of intrigued, mystified and dubious about what they saw on offer.

After all, not all OSes are born equal, and without wishing to offend their doting parents manufacturers, it's a tough world out there and whether they have the talent and charm to see their names in lights one day alongside the likes of iOS and Android is a matter often misjudged.

Mozilla and Samsung pushed out their half-baked operating systems -- Firefox OS and Tizen, respectively -- for us to demo like unpolished theatre-school kids at their first auditions. Impressing us the most though was Ubuntu Touch, which proved so slick and elegant in our hands-on time with it that we awarded it our prestigious best of show award. Kid, you'll move mountains! We hope.

Also on the podcast, the team discuss their other favourite products of the show, along with some of the more oddball tech they saw on their las ramblasings around Barcelona. Gadgets that captured their interest include Asus' PadFone and, er, FonePad, Dell's Project Ophelia and a GPS walking stick.

We'll be back next week with the standard-format podcast, video 'n' all, recorded in our London studio for your viewing and listening pleasure. In the meantime, hit play on the triangle in the box above and let us know what you thought of this year's MWC in the comments below.
