<b>Double shutdown bug: DSDP Fixer AppleScript solution?

CNET staff
Joseph DelPopolo has created an AppleScript application, DSDP Fixer Application, based on the script by Hirobumi Gotoh (previously posted here). It works-around the double shutdown bug in Mac OS 8.1, at least for some users. It does this by emptying the Trash prior to shutdown, "eliminating folders such as the 'nscomm4' folder which Netscape Communicator 4.04 generates and places in the 'Temporary Items' folder whenever an outgoing e-mail message is sent by the user. Once this 'nscomm4' folder is trashed, the machine seems to shutdown normally."

"To implement the fix you must place the 'DSDP Fixer Application' in the System Folder's Shutdown Items folder. It is important to note that the DSDP Fixer Application must be told not to use a StartUp Screen before operating. This can be done by going under the File menu header and un-checking "Use StartUp Screen" when the dialog box to run the application is open. This is important because the AppleScript application defaults to use the StartUp Screen whenever a new copy is generated or one is installed on a different computer."
