<b>DaynaPORT PCI Ethernet card problem

CNET staff
Dana Welch reports that the DaynaPORT PCI Ethernet card when installed on certain Macintosh clones (such as his PowerBase 180) is incompatible with FTP transfers of large files. For example, when transferring a file of 80K, a freeze occurred that required a restart to remedy. (The DaynaPORT is connected to an Allied Telsyn Tranceiver and then the standard MediaOne "LAN City" model LCPEA cable modem.)

Dana contacted Chris Heatherly (of Power Computing) regarding this issue and received the following reply (which Chris also forwarded to me and to several other web sites):

"I spoke to a test engineer from Dayna today. We are working together to help identify the source of these reports. Dayna has not, as of yet, reproduced this issue in their labs. Power will work with Dayna very closely to identify the source of this issue and help resolve it. At this time, the symptoms do not indicate a problem with the PowerBase. Indeed, the Asante Ethernet card which Power sells as an option for the PowerBase does not exhibit this behavior. Power has also escalated to Apple and will also be coordinating with them to identify the source of this issue."
