BBC Sports app kicks off on Android

The BBC Sport app has kicked off on Android. You can get your sporting fix on the go on your Samsung Galaxy S3, Google Nexus 4 or an Android tablet up measuring up to the 7-inch size of the Google Nexus 7.

The app pipes the latest sporting news and videos into any Android device up to 7 inches, including phone, tablets, and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in-between.

The app opens with a home screen displaying the latest headlines, with separate home pages for Formula 1, cricket, rugby union and rugby league, tennis, golf, football and individual football teams. Results and stats are added live, as well as text commentaries.

The iPhone version of the app came out last month. Android is often second to get big-name apps, an issue that developers blame on Android's complexity compared to Apple's simpler iOS platform -- where there's basically one iPhone and two iPads, Android has a wealth of phones and tablets to account for, coming in all different shapes and sizes and specs.

Still, waiting for an Android app is especially galling when it's an app that we've already paid for as part of another service, like the BBC and Sky. Just last month Android-toting Sky Sports customers were angry to miss out on new features.

BBC Sport app is on Google Play right now. You'll need Android version 2.2 or higher to download it.
