Barnes & Noble not part of Microsoft event

Microsoft will apparently not be introducing a Nook tablet today alongside the book retailer. Whatever's coming, you can catch the news as it happens on CNET's live blog.

Microsoft

You can scratch a Nook-inspired tablet as the product Microsoft is unveiling at its mysterious event today.

Dow Jones Newswires initially reported that Barnes & Noble will not be a part of Microsoft's event. Business Insider, which initially picked up the Dow Jones report, independently confirmed with book retailer that it isn't participating the event.

CNET has also confirmed that Barnes & Noble will not be a part of the event.

A report over the weekend had Microsoft unveiling an entertainment-focused device alongside Barnes & Noble.

It contradicted several other reports that Microsoft was unveiling its own tablet to better compete against the iPad and to showcase its upcoming Windows 8 operating system.

The strategy has already drawn some critics, who wonder if Microsoft is jumping the gun by unveiling its own product so early, and whether it will hurt some of its longtime partners, who have already committed to making tablets based off of Windows 8.

Whatever the announcement is, you can get all the details when CNET live blogs the event later today starting at 3:30 p.m. PT.
