Bare line feeds and email Recently we copied some text from GoLive to an email message. When we tried to send it, it would not go. It turned out that the text contained a "bare line feed" which many mail servers reject. A bare line feed is an ASCII line feed (LF) character not preceded by an ASCII carriage-return (CR) character. This page has more details. Fixing active virus-infected files Bob Patterson reminds us that if your antivirus utility refuses to fix an infected file, perhaps giving you a cryptic error message as an explanation, it may be that the file is an active file that cannot be modified (such as the System or Finder). The solution is to start up from a CD and try again. Bob had this problem recently with Virex. The error number was 32611. MRJ 2.2.2 and Explorer 5 MRJ 2.2.2 is now posted on Apple's Software Downloads site. Of interest, the page states more details about the security issues it fixes: "MRJ 2.2.2 addresses a network security problem which occurred when using MSIE 5.0. MRJ 2.2.2 does not address some additional networking problems that users are encountering when using MRJ 2.2 with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0. Apple takes these additional problems seriously and is working with Microsoft to address them." (Thanks, Casey Common.)
