Backup 3.1.1 (#2): Scheduled backups fail after sleep
MacFixIt reader Kerry reports persistence of an issue where Apple Backup fails to properly perform scheduled backups when the computer has been a sleep in version 3.1.1 of the software.
Kerry writes:
"This upgrade fails to resolve a critical problem A scheduled backup will not execute at its scheduled time if the computer has been asleep. Users who think their end of the day backup may have happened before they shutdown for the day maybe find that a backup does not exist due to the scheduler problem. Dotmac assured me engineering was working on the issue and that it would be fixed yet there is no fix. Backup is so critical in case corruption happens and unless the user is aware of this problem, they may think backups are occurring at their scheduled time when they are not. I use Quickeys as a workaround but there should be no need for this. I have tons of software that uses schedules and this is the only software that does not use schedules reliably."
As such, you should always confirm that backups performed by Apple's Backup have actually occurred.
