Back in 2005, Mark Zuckerberg didn't expect Facebook to grow beyond colleges
In an interview in 2005, Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook is an online directory for colleges and not something intended to take over the world.
The success of Facebook is beyond anyone's wildest dreams, including those of Mark Zuckerberg apparently.
In a video interview done in 2005, when asked whether he planed to expand Facebook beyond colleges, he didn't seem to show any ambition in that direction. "Facebook is an online directory for colleges." said Zuckerberg then "A lot of people are focused on taking over the world or doing the biggest thing, getting the most users... Part of making a difference and doing something cool is focusing intensely."
More than a decade later, Facebook now has some 1,300 employees and almost 1.6 billion active users around the world, with the majority of them coming from outside the US.
Mark Zuckerberg didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
