Feel free to buy the latest Harry Potter movie in Blu-ray for road trips--Audiovox released the first Blu-ray player for in-car entertainment systems. The electronics manufacturer introduced its latest offering at CES Unveiled this week, and the Blu-ray DVD player should help users make the transition to the newest movie format.

"As more and more Blu-ray discs enter the market, consumers will want to maintain a single video collection that works both in the vehicle and at home. Our new mobile Blu-ray disc players lets them do just that and it will also play standard DVDs, giving the consumer one system for both formats," said president Tom Malone in a news statement.

Audiovox's Automotive Blu-ray DVD player, AVDBR1, is powered using a 2-pin, 12-volt connector and can be mounted in a vehicle's cargo area, storage compartment, or under the seat. Mounted either horizontally or vertically, AVDBR1 connects to monitors using HDMI, composite, or component output. The manufacturer's road tests determined the player could tolerate vehicle environments.

The AVDBR1 will be available in April and will retail for $349.99, said an Audiovox spokesman in an e-mail. That may not help you this holiday season on the trek to grandma's house, but at least moms and dads can add it to their wish list for summer road trips.
