Audio CDs and Network Assistant conflict? Adam Turetzky found that he could not play audio CDs on his G4 if the Apple Network Assistant Startup extension was enabled. This MacFixIt Forums thread has the details. [Also see TIL article #31131.] File Synchronization errors Not really new news, but Lorne Walton found that Apple's File Synchronization still produces "Out of memory" and "Unexpected quit" errors in Mac OS 9 - even after substantially increasing its memory partition. We can confirm this; it happens any time the number of files being synchronized exceeds some minimal level. Apple had previously noted that folders with custom icons could cause this to occur (see one and two), but none were present in Lorne's case. Software Update control panel still not working Speaking of not so new news, we are still unable to get the Mac OS 9 Software Update control panel to work on our iMac or G4. We keep getting an error that says it failed to make a successful connection to the Internet. It has been doing this since late last week. It is probably just overloaded with people looking for Mac OS 9.0.4, but it makes you wonder how it will handle the capacity when the update finally comes out. Coming soon in Mac OS X Developers recently received an email messages with the following note: "We're pleased to announce that Aqua now supports controls virtually the same size as those of the Platinum theme on Mac OS 9. With this change, most applications need only minor layout work, similar to what is typically required for localization, and your application will still look great on Mac OS 9! These Platinum-sized controls are not part of Developer Preview 3 but will be made available in the future. Stay tuned to the Mac OS X area of Apple's Developer website [for further announcements]."
