ATTO UL2S and QuickSilver Incompatible?

ATTO UL2S and QuickSilver Incompatible?

CNET staff

Limore Gruber reports a strange conlift between ATTO's UL2S SCSI card and Apple's QuickSilver Power Macintosh G4 systems.

"For the last few days we have been troubleshooting a problem on an 800mhz Quicksilver running as an Appleshare IP file server. The server would slow down as users connected and accessed files off of a Micronet Raidbank 2000 connected to the machine via an Atto Express PCI UL2S SCSI host adapter. This slow down was apparent on the host machine and would translate to a slow down on the client machines. Everything from opening windows on the appleshare server to quitting the server application would cause the mouse to jerk, windows to react in slow motion. Eventually the server would simply stop functioning and the client machines would crash. We finally traced it to the SCSI card, which once removed, worked fine.

"A call to Atto’s technical support revealed that this card is end of life product and is incompatible with any Quicksilver G4 above 533mhz."
