ATI offers fix for Mac OS X 10.3.3 DVD Player problems

CNET staff

We previously reported a problem with video artifacts in DVD Player 4.0 (included as part of Mac OS X 10.3.3) when used in conjunction with ATI's RADEON 9800 Pro cards, and possibly other models.

The solution that worked for most users was to replace the DVD Player framework was updated as part of Mac OS X 10.3.3 with the version included in Mac OS X 10.3.2.

ATI has now issued a new patch to resolve the issue:

DVD HotFix for Mac OS X 10.3.3: "fixes corruption in Panther DVD player: Applies to RADEON 9800, 9700, 9600 (any "R300" class product)."

ATI's release notes read:

"This HotFix replaces the RADEON 9800/9700 accelerator files that ship with the 10.3.3 system software update. The hotfix addresses an issue that may have appeared as visual corruption when playing any DVD movie with Apple DVD Player.

"The update applies ONLY to Mac OS X 10.3.3 and will not install nor function with an older nor newer version of the OS. All forthcoming versions of Mac OS will have already corrected this issue."
