Asus TOUGH Android Honeycomb tablet is tough
Asus has outed an Android tablet that's tough enough to take all you can throw at it. And it's running Honeycomb, for tablet-optimised fun.
So that iPad 2 thinks it's big, eh? Pah. The new Asus TOUGH could eat it for breakfast. Faced with this beast, the iPad 2 would be a nervous wreck, cowering in the corner with its hands in front of its face and begging for mercy. Well you get the point -- this tablet is tough.
Engadget reports that the 7-inch, Honeycomb-enabled tablet has a rubberised bezel and strips across the back, effectively encasing it and making it shock-resistant for drops of up to 76cm. Good news for those of us prone to the occasional tumble.
Naturally, it's a tad on the chunky side, but the rubberised casing also helps make it water- and dust-resistant, so ideal if you're anywhere you're likely to be splashed or have dust kicked up in your face. But it's not all just brawn -- there are some serious brains inside too.
It's powered by a Tegra 2 dual-core 1GHz processor, comes with all the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS you'd expect, and for storage you get 16GB internal, with more available if using a microSD card. So all present and correct.
The bad news? It'll only be available in Japan when it launches in November. We would advise wrapping your brand new Kindle Fire in a protective case until then, but that's US-only at time of writing. Sometimes it really does hurt to be a Brit.
The Motorola Defy+ was the last Android hard nut to strut its way to the UK and spill our pint, but that's a handset rather than a tablet. The 3.7-incher is water- and scratch-resistant, as well as dust-proof, and is 25 per cent faster than its predecessor.
