Asus, not Samsung, reportedly to make next Nexus 10

Google will drop Samsung in favour of Asus to make the next Nexus 10, a report claims.

The next Nexus 10 will be made by Asus instead of Samsung, Geek.com reports. Adding fuel to the fire, Amir Efrati, formerly of The Wall Street Journal, has retracted an earlier statement that claimed Samsung would be behind the next 10-inch tablet .

Motorola is also rumoured to be making the next Nexus handset, taking over from LG. So it looks like it could be all change for flagship Android devices in the coming months.

Asus is behind the original Nexus 7 tablet, and the recent refresh that has us so enchanted . Google obviously has a good working relationship with the company, and judging from the new Nexus 7, its products are just getting better and better.

Google is also getting wary of Samsung. At Mobile World Congress, Google's Andy Rubin said the Big G bought Motorola to stop Samsung dominating Android . Getting Samsung to make your flagship 10-inch tablet would therefore seem like a backwards step.

Geek.com also has a screenshot apparently showing the Nexus 10 in a shop's inventory. The model is listed as "Google Nexus 10 16G" (16GB, I'm guessing that means), and the manufacturer is given as Asus.

So what can we expect from the new tablet? A Snapdragon chip, and a 2,560x1,600-pixel resolution display, according to Geek.com. The tablet should be out in time for Christmas, too.

It's all go in the land of Android tablets. Not only is there a new Nexus 7 about to touch down , but we should see new models of Amazon Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HD 8.9 coming soon . Better screens, and an update to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean should be on the cards.

Should Google switch to Asus instead of Samsung for the Nexus 10? What specs would you like to see? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook page.
