They're attacking! Asus

BARCELONA, Spain--Given what else it has had to deal with recently, Spain probably wouldn't be all that shocked if a UFO did indeed land atop Gaudi's famous Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain. But rest assured, would-be tourists, that was just a teaser in a brief video Asus released over the Internet in the run-up to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Asus' Mobile World Congress press conference

The video ends with an invitation to "join Asus to embrace the metallic miracle" on February 25 at Mobile World Congress. Another tease: the company's Mobile World Congress event page is titled, "In Search of Incredible," while a secondary headline reads, "Asus launches the Next Mobile Transformation."

So what does it all mean? Well, we're not really sure, but Asus will reveal all at its Monday press conference just after Mobile World Congress officially opens. CNET's Stephen Shankland, Rich Trenholm, and photographer Sarah Tew will be there bring you the news, photos, and commentary from the event, which begins at 1:30 p.m. local time or 4:30 a.m. PT (calculate the start time in your time zone).

Asus didn't stop there. As showgoers gathered in Barcelona over the weekend for this huge conclave about everything mobile, Asus put out a spot featuring a statue of Christopher Columbus coming to life in order to take a phone call.

That's all Asus is saying for the moment, though we're less than 24 hours away from the event. CNET will be on hand to report the news so tune in here when the presser gets under way for the latest. And bookmark this page for our complete Mobile World Congress coverage.
