Netscape Epson problem: success! Regarding our previous report, reader consensus was near unanimous: By not opening Netscape to a blank page, you can avoid the crashes caused by a conflict with Epson software. Glad to hear it!

Update Steve Vance received a reply from Epson on what exactly is the purpose of Epson Launcher: "It allows you to put a spool folder on a different drive than your startup drive. That is it's sole use and it is not required in order to print out of your root drive."

Netscape referrer bug: success! Readers were equally positive about the work-around to avoid the referrer problem previously reported. However, Gary Travis did have one problem: "After adding the line to the Netscape Preferences file, I was unable to complete the voting procedure with ProxyVote. After entering the required information and making the final submission, I received a referrer error."

Java applet eats memory: Sentinel-Record changes its page to fix the problem Most readers confirmed the problem (web browser memory increasing due to a Java applet on the Sentinel-Record's web page), as reported last time. A few even included other web pages that had similar problems. However, a couple of readers claimed they went to the web page and did not have the problem. One reason for this is that it now appears that the SR fixed the web page by eliminating the applet. Bill Clemons talked to SR Webmaster Mark Gregory about this. Mark told him that the problem applet was a template created by Microsoft Front Page and that the applet has now been replaced by a GIF file.
