Asda selling £50 720p HD TV next week

Asda's Venturer 720p TV costs just £50, though it is only 15.6-inches across. Still, you can't go wrong for £50, can you?

His pride and joy is an Infocus projector, whose 80-inch picture elevates movie nights to a whole new level.

If you're looking to tighten your belt this Christmas (metaphorically speaking), Asda may have the TV for you.

Next week it'll start selling an HD-ready TV for just £50. Yes, £50. It might not surprise you to hear the specs are less than stunning, but still, £50.

The Venturer 15.6-inch set is 720p HD. It's an LED set, and while it's too small for most lounges, it would make a handy second set. Asda is stressing that having two TVs will help stop arguments over what to watch. (Though in our experience the argument just shifts to who gets the main set, but maybe that's just us.)

"This is an astonishing deal," said Michael Arnott, HD TV buyer at Asda, so he would say that, "and we're delighted to be able to bring HD-Ready TV to our customers at such an amazing price.

"We're also glad to be doing our bit to support domestic harmony this Christmas."

So don't expect amazing picture quality, but still, £50 is a small price to pay to get away from the family at Christmas.

The TV is listed as Out of Stock on Asda's website, but that could be just because the deal hasn't started yet. It packs an HDMI for hooking up an HD set-top box, games console or Blu-ray player. The in-built digital tuner gives you over 50 Freeview TV channels and radio stations too, so there should be plenty to choose from.

So would you buy a £50 second TV? Or wouldn't you be seen dead with it in your house? Let us know in the comments below, or head over to our Facebook page and leave us your thoughts.
