Asda 3D-printing service makes a tiny ceramic you, for £40
Asda's bizarre in-shop scheme launches next week, and costs £40 per figurine.

The UK supermarket is launching an in-shop 3D printing service, that scans your whole body to create a tiny, 8-inch version of you, or anyone else you choose to have scanned.
Asda's Phil Stout told CNET UK that the scanner is capable of scanning objects of all sizes, from something as small as a shoe to something as large as a car. For now however the tech will only be used to scan humans.
Scanning only takes two minutes, but you'll have to wait a bit longer than that for the model itself to be manufactured. While most 3D-printed objects are made of plastic, Asda has chosen ceramic, for a classier touch.
You'll need a bit of spare cash if you want to get models of your whole family done, as each statue costs £40. Perhaps figure out which of your immediate family you love the most, and ask the rest to wait in the car.
The service will be starting up next week in an Asda shop in York. It's only in the one shop for now, while Asda gauges the response from customers.
3D printing is poised to take over the world, and -- as you can see in the video below -- could one day be used to create entire houses, designed by computer algorithms, that cost very little to build.
