Dan Henton was having a problem ejecting his Asanté FriendlyNET PC card from his PowerBook 1400. He contacted Asanté Technical Support about this and they replied: We have discovered that the PowerBook 1400 has an inconsistent power voltage operating range on the PCMCIA bus. While the voltage is supposed to be 5V it fluctuates and< varies between 3.3V and 5V, which is why the Asanté FriendlyNET PC card in some PB1400's will not eject. This is not a defect with the Asanté PC card, but a power issue with the PB1400 computer model and is seen by approximately 50% of Power Book 1400 laptop users. To improve the yield to 98%, we have changed the Winbond SRAM chipset from LL to LE version (W24258S-70LE) in the FriendlyNET PC card. The difference is that the LL operating voltage is 5V, while the LE can operate from 3.3V to 5V. This can accommodate the inconsistent voltage input from Power Book 1400. The FriendlyNET PC cards with the Winbond LE (W24258S-70LE) chipset have a serial number range of 005K1801 or higher, which can be found on the Asanté retail packaging box, or on the underside of the FriendlyNET PC card. We will replace your FriendlyNET PC card if it has an ejection problem if you are the original purchaser of the PC card and have proof of purchase. If your FriendlyNET PC card was purchased used from a previous owner then the terms of the Asanté warranty are void and no replacement will be made for this, or any problem that you may have with the FriendlyNET PC card. To resolve any problems regarding your Asanté product please give one of our support technicians a call at: 1-800-622-7464. They can verify warranty repair or replacement for you and take the steps necessary to setup a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) number to return your product to Asanté Technologies, Inc.
