AppleShare Client 3.8 crashing bug

AppleShare Client 3.8 crashing bug

CNET staff
The Columbia AppleTalk Package (CAP) implements the AppleTalk protocol stack on avariety of UNIX machines. Michel Jongepier uses CAP for AppleShare IP on Unix. If he uses AppleShare 3.8 Client to connect to the AppleShare server, the Mac freezes. He contacted the makers of CAP about this and they replied:
There are two solutions to this problem. You can wait for Apple to release AppleShare Client 3.8.1 where this crashing problem is fixed. Or can apply the Aug. 7 patches to fix the problem at the CAP end.

The issue is that Apple introduced a new flag in the GetVolParms call but didn't increase the protocol version number or advertise very widely that the change had been made. Apparently they consider it OK for them to randomly add new bit fields to published (for 3 years now) protocols.
