Speaking of SCSI connection issues with the new G3s, a thread on Apple's Discussion Boards points to possible misinformation from Apple regarding the the Ultra2 SCSI controller included with the G3/400MHz configuration. Replies from Apple suggest updated corrected information is coming soon. Here are the highlights:

Original post from Sean Collins: Received a new B&W G3/400 yesterday. Great machine, but I am extremely upset that Apple has posted serious misinformation concerning the Ultra2 SCSI controller included in this configuration. An Apple TIL article states that the card has internal connectors for 50 and 68 pin Ultra drives, in addition to the Ultra2 connections. This is false! There are no additional connectors.

Apple Support replied: There are two different Ultra2 cards available. A single channel card and a dual-channel card. The article primarily has information on the single channel card with the exception of the last sentence which describes one of the Ultra2 connectors as being on a separate bus. I apologize for any incorrect or misleading information in the article. I have requested the article be pulled until it can be clearly labeled what features are for which card. [Note: the article has been pulled.]

Sean replied: Thank you for your response, but your information is still incorrect, insofar as my particular G3 is concerned. I have a G3/400 with the single channel card. It does not have any internal connectors, except the Ultra2 SCSI!

Apple Support replied: I appreciate the information. We are trying to find out the correct information and get this published.

Sean's most recent posting: I have been assigned an Apple case number, and the issue is being escalated for resolution. I have been promised a callback by Tuesday at the latest.
