AppleCare repricing coming later this month

I have word from a reliable source that Apple will be dramatically restructuring its AppleCare service plans within the next few weeks. In particular: (1) You will be able to purchase AppleCare as an add-on when buying hardware from the online Apple Store. (2) There will no longer be separate options for a particular type of service (on-site, carry-in, or mail-in). Rather, the type of service will be determined by Apple in each specific case. (3) There will be a significant drop in AppleCare pricing in most cases, up to 56% less for Power Macintosh and PowerBooks. However, prices for covering printers are expected to increase slightly.
