Continuing its rapid 2003 product introduction cycle, Apple has introduced new flavors of its Xserve 1U rackmountable system.

The new machines sport dual 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 processors, up to 2GB of 333 MHz Double Data Rate (DDR) memory and up to 720GB of hot-plug storage, with configurations starting at $ 2,799 (US).

Apple also introduced the Xserve RAID, the first 3U rack storage system with a 2.5TB storage capacity, performance of up to 400 MB/s and the "industry's most aggressive price point" of just over $4 (US) per gigabyte.

The RAID set-up consists of fourteen independent ATA/100 drive channels. Dual independent RAID controllers with up to 1GB controller cache memory provide fully-redundant storage. And a dual 2Gb Fibre Channel host interface delivers unprecedented performance. Xserve raid will take up 3U of rack space.

The 2.5 TB Xserve RAID is priced at $ 10,999.
