Game Sprockets Apple has released Game Sprockets 1.7.4. It "is a set of software libraries that most game and Universal Serial Bus (USB)input devices such as joysticks, game pads, and mice require for optimum performance. Game Sprockets 1.7.4 includes nearly all the HID-compliant USB input devices including wheel mice, multiple-monitor performance improvements, higher quality 3D sound filtering, and delivers improvements for graphic intensive game applications." MacFixIt reader Aaron Ryck notes: "Game Sprockets 1.7.4 comes with HID Library 1.3.7. Mac OS 9.0.4 comes with an even newer 1.4.1 version." However, according to David Kanter, the Installer will not overwrite the older version, if present. Curtis Boyle is a happy camper: "Installing the new Game Sprockets made huge improvements to frame rates in GLTron on my iBook. Previously, with details and other settings all maxed, I would get about 21-24 frames per second in 640x480, and only about 4-6 frames per second on 800x600 (unplayable). After installing this update, my 640x480 is now 27-31 frames per second, and 800x600 averages at 21 frames per second (about the same speed the previous version ran 640x480. Quite impressive!" CarbonLib Users can get CarbonLib 1.0.4 via the Mac OS 9 Software Update control panel. It is also included with AppleWorks 6.0.3. (Thanks, Justin Jay, Tobias Kubelke, and Daniel De La Torre.) Update: It is now also available on Apple's Software Downloads site.
