We continue to receive reports from users about the latest round of software updates from Apple (see yesterday's coverage). Here is the latest:

    Authoring Support Update 1.1

Toast Titanium 5 incompatible? Jim Mueller writes: "According xlr8yourmac.com, Authoring Support Update breaks iTunes/DiskBurner compatibility with Toast Titanium 5.0.1. The workaround is to disable the new authoring extensions."

Support files In addition to the extensions and utilities already noted, the update also replaces all of the files in the Authoring Support Files folder. Jeff DuMonthier writes: "Afterward the new version of the Apple System Profiler now recognizes my Yamaha CRW2100E FireWire/EIDE drive by name rather than as fw609e,1048."

Standalone version released For users who don't want to use Software update, there is a standalone installer.

    Apple DVD Player 2.4

Software Update Apple DVD Player 2.4 is only available as a standalone installer. It does not appear in the Software Update control panel.

Update: The new version has not shown up in Software Update on our two DVD machines, and several users report it didn't show up on their machines. We have since heard from others who were able to update via the control panel. We don't know why it works for some and not for others.

Installing drive first Numerous users report success after installing the drive into the expansion bay after receiving a message that Apple DVD Player 2.4 cannot be installed on this machine. (Many thanks to all the users who confirmed it works.)

FireWire "Pismo" PowerBooks? Franklin Marder points out that TIL article 26201 does not specifically mention the FireWire PowerBook as one of the machines to which this update applies. Most likely the article is in error. Several users have already reported updating FireWire (Pismo) PowerBooks successfully.

    Disk First Aid

David Kanter points out that while the DFA 8.6 Readme said that 8.6 was "Intended for Mac OS 9.0.x," The update states: "Disk First Aid 8.6.1 is intended for PowerPC-based Macintosh computers using the U.S. English version of Mac OS 9.0.4 or later."
