Apple unveils Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro 5), Soundtrack Pro, Shake 4 at NAB

Apple has announced a series of revised video editing and mastering programs at he National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas.

Final Cut Pro 5 supports DV, SD, film, and all major HD formats including HDV, DVCPRO HD and fully uncompressed HD. It also includes:

  • Native HDV (long GOP MPEG-2) which enables users to edit camera native HDV without generation loss.
  • New multicam tools let editors cut from up to 128 sources, with simultaneous real-time playback of up to 16 angles at a time
  • A new IMX codec allows for native editing of broadcast content from Sony?s XDCAM.
  • Direct support for Panasonic?s P2 solid state media gives editors a solution for tapeless transfer of DVCPRO, DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO HD video.
  • New Dynamic RT, an intelligent system that automatically adjusts image quality and frame-rate during playback
  • New audio capabilities that allow users to capture up to 24 simultaneous audio channels at high-quality 24-bit 96kHz and use audio control surfaces.

Final Cut Studio, which includes Soundtrack Pro, Motion 2, and DVD Studio Pro 4 is priced at US$1300.

Soundtrack Pro features:

  • waveform editor with flexible Action Layers that allow users to instantly re-order, bypass or change any edit, effect or process.
  • Intelligent Find-and-Fix features quickly identify and repair common audio problems such as background noise, pops, clicks and hum.
  • Over 50 professional effect plug-ins and 1,000 professional quality sound effects

The new release is priced at US$300.

Shake 4 can now composite live action and 3D CGI layers with added realism a new OpenGL accelerated 3D multi-plane compositing node. It also features an optical flow technology that uses pixel-by-pixel image analysis to create smooth retiming and automatic stabilization and Truelight monitor calibration to maintain color consistency between the computer screen and the final look of the film. Shake 4 carries a retail price of US$3000.
