Apple unveils 4G LTE pricing for the new iPad
It says AT&T customers will be paying $14.99 and up for access to that company's LTE, while Verizon Wireless customers will pay at least $20 a month.
Apple has revealed 4G LTE pricing for its new iPad.
According to the company, those who choose AT&T's service will need to pay $14.99 per month for 250MB of data. If they want 3GB or 5GB of monthly data, iPad owners will be paying $30 or $50, respectively. Verizon's cheapest plan starts at 1GB per month and will cost customers $20. The carrier's 2GB and 5GB options are $30 and $50, respectively.
Apple unveiled its latest iPad yesterday. The company said that its updated tablet, which comes with the Retina Display and the A5X processor, among other new goodies, will work on LTE networks from Verizon, AT&T, Rogers, Bell, and Telus. Those who often connect to the Web from the road were happy to see the addition of LTE, but at least some analysts aren't sure it'll be something that appeals to most consumers.
"4G LTE network connectivity is a better fit for a larger device, such as the iPad, where there is a richer Web experience," NPD Group analyst Ross Rubin said yesterday to CNET. "But the pricing of the device and the services will continue to be an issue for consumers."
As CNET's Maggie Reardon points out, the pricing bump for the LTE option is significant.
"For one, consumers must pay a $130 premium to even get a carrier-enabled iPad," Reardon points out. "In addition to the hefty price tag of the device, users also must pay a monthly data service fee."
In other words, getting in on the LTE fun with the new iPad is a costly endeavor.
Apple's new iPad will launch on March 16. The company is currently accepting pre-orders.
