USB modem listing glitch fixed in Mac OS 9 A new Apple TIL article #25085 reports that Mac OS 9 (as well as the special version of Mac OS 8.6 that initially shipped with the iBook, slot-loading iMac, and G4 Macs) fixes a problem where a USB external modem appears twice in the Devices and Volumes tab of Apple System Profiler.

AppleTalk and TCP/IP File Sharing A recently updated Apple TIL article #60627 advises: "AppleTalk must be active to use the implementation of TCP/IP file sharing included with Mac OS 9. If you do not want AppleTalk active over your network connection, you can set the AppleTalk control panel to another port such as 'Remote Only.'"
