Apple says any internal ATAPI Zip drive will work in G3/BW

Last month, we covered the question of whether "generic" Zip drives, including ATAPI drives, could be successfully used as internal drives in G3/BW Macs. Although there was clearly a difference of opinion on the matter, an unofficial reply from Iomega clearly stated that - except for Apple's ATAPI Zip drive - only SCSI Zip drives were supported by Iomega.

A new TIL article (#58321) from Apple contradicts this. It asks: "In order to install a Zip drive into my Power Macintosh G3 (Blue and White), must I get the drive from Apple or will any ATAPI Zip drive work?" The answer is: "Upgrading your Power Macintosh G3 does not require a specific Zip drive from Apple, so you can obtain an ATAPI Zip drive from your favorite vendor. If your computer did not come with a Zip bezel, you may obtain one from your Apple Authorized Service Provider or a third party company. The Apple part number is 076-0762."
