Apple releases QuickTime 7.1.1

CNET staff

Apple has released QuickTime 7.1.1, a maintenance update to the key multimedia component of Mac OS X that fixes several issues mentioned in our QuickTime 7.1 special report.

The release notes state that this update "addresses an issue with 3rd party start-up items on Intel Macs. This release also fixes an issue exporting Keynote presentations to iDVD."

Specifically, the update resolves an issue we previously noted where startup stalls when certain StartupItems are present in the /Library/StartupItems or /Library/Internet Plug-ins folders.

More information as well as a download link are available from VersionTracker's QuickTime product page. The new release is also available through Software Update.

UPDATE: Also fixes Acrobat launching bug It appears that this update also resolves an issue where Adobe Acrobat fails to launch on systems with the QuickTime 7.1 update. This bug has been associated with both QuickTime 7.1 and Security Update 2006-003, but appears to be resolved after application of the QuickTime 7.1.1 update.

If you are having problems after applying this update, please let us know.
