Apple releases iTunes and Java updates

Apple has released updates for iTunes as well as its in-house developed Java runtime environment for OS X. The iTunes updates bring the version to 10.2.1, and come only a few days after the initial release of iTunes 10.2.

Apple offers no details on what is changed between iTunes 10.2 and 10.2.1, and the description of the update is the same as the initial 10.2 release. While there have been a few reports on Apple's iTunes discussion boards of bugs such as Home Sharing not working in iTunes 10.2, these are relatively few in number.

Regardless of the specifics in the latest release, Apple has clearly at least tackled a few bugs in the prior release, so you might consider applying this update if you have installed iTunes 10.2.

The second update from Apple today is to the Java runtime for OS X 10.5 and 10.6. The update is a small update that brings the installed Java version to 1.6.0_24 and 1.5.0_24 for the Java SE 6 and Java SE5 runtimes, respectively. These updates are mainly to address a number of security issues in the prior Java versions that affect code sandboxing.

As with all software updates from Apple, these should be available in Software Update, but they can also be downloaded and applied manually via the following links. Neither of the updates will require you to restart your system, but the Java updates will require you to quit and relaunch your browsers.
