CNET staff

Yesterday Apple released Pro Application Support 4.0 which release notes state "improves general user interface reliability for Apple's professional applications and is recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Aperture, Final Cut Express HD, Soundtrack, Logic Pro and Logic Express."

The new release is available as a 7.6 MB standalone download.

Already users are sporadically noting a few issues after applying the update.

MacFixIt reader Loren Latker reports problems launching Aperture:

"A few hours after installing Pro Application Support 4.0 I tried starting Aperture only to have it crash on booting, multiple times.

"I tried the usual: Applejack, updating prebinding, repair permissions (which Applejack also does), empty caches, etc. - nothing worked.

"I have a three internal SATA drives, in addition to my Macintosh HD drive, in my Mac Pro, one of which is a clone of my boot drive Mac HD. The clone was updated at 3:30 PM today, before I installed the Pro App Support.

"After rebooting from the SATA drive Aperture ran fine from the Clone. The only difference between the two drives - the only software installed this afternoon - is the Pro App Support."
