Apple Computer's iTunes Music Store is closing in on the 1 billion song sales mark.

At last count, the company had just over 998 million songs sold, meaning today could be the day it hits the magic number. The company has promised a bevy of prizes to the person who downloads the billionth song. Other prizes are going to those who download every 100,000th song.
