Apple has updated a couple of knowledgebase articles. The first one is about setting up firewalls to work properly with Apple TV, since many people may run into connection problems with Apple's multimedia device. The second article contains information on the algorithms used when erasing the free disk space on your hard drive with Disk Utility.

Configuring firewalls on a Mac for use with Apple TV

This article outlines how to set up the ports in your computer's firewall to allow for connections with the AppleTV. The specific procedures are for OS X 10.4, but for Leopard users Apple references this knowledgebase document for how to use the Application Firewall with that system. The information in this document may also be useful for people who are running Windows or trying to connect to an AppleTV through a router.

Mac OS X v10.5: About Disk Utility's erase free space feature

This article discusses the options for erasing free space on hard drives connected to your mac. We have covered this feature in past articles and while there is debate on whether or not files are indeed recoverable after one overwrite of the data on disk (ie, zeroing out deleted files), the options to run 7-pass and 35-pass deletions are available. This article talks about the sequence of patterns that are written to disk with these free-space deletion options.
