Apple Java Updates cause startup, font issues

CNET staff

Late Wednesday, Apple released Java updates for Mac OS X 10.4.x and Mac OS X 10.5.x:

Some users are reporting miscellanous issues after the update.

One reader writes:

"Since updating Java, on startup I get the following message: You can't open the application "Executor" because it requires a version of Java that is not available. This application requires "1.3*" version of Java. The available Java version "1.5" may be able to open this application, but it may not work correctly. There are 2 buttons: "Use 1.5" and "Quit". Pressing either results in the message reappearing several more times. I have reapplied 10.5.5 Combo to no effect.

Other users are reporting font smoothing issues.
