Apple has released a new version of Security Update 2006-002, version 1.1.

However, the company has not provided any details regarding enhancements in this release relative to the initial version, issued earlier this week. This version is slightly larger in size than its predecessor.

Some users are reporting that problems they experienced with the initial release are fixed after applying this version.

The new update is available through Software Update, or the following standalone download links:

Safari launching issue simply a broken alias in some cases In some cases, if Safari will not launch after applying Security Update 2006-002 1.1, the issue may simply be a broken alias in the Dock. Dragging the Safari icon out of the dock and replacing it by dragging the Safari application icon in the Finder to the Dock resolves the issue.

One reader writes:

"After updating I also noticed that Safari wouldn't launch from the Dock. When clicked on, the dock Icon turned generic and Safari wouldn't launch. Simple fix---lifted the icon from the dock (poof) and dragged the Safari icon from the Applications folder to the dock. All fixed."

Problems applying through Software Update Some users are having issues installing Security Update 2006-002 1.1 through Software Update.

One reader writes:

"I get the message: The update 'Security Update 2006-002 (PowerPC) could not be verified and expended correctly. Make sure you have permission to write to /private/tmp/501/Temporary Items/com.apple.Software update, then try again.

"Since this I haven't been able to print from any applications, although test pages sent from CUPS (localhosts:631) work fine. Messages vary from 'print error (Preview) or Check printer Center (word) or Document cannot print (Adobe Reader)."

If you are experiencing this issue, please see our tutorial "When Software Update Won't Work (System cannot see or install updates)." The suggestions listed there have proved successful for several readers.
