Apple iPod 2.0.1 Updater leaves unnecessary root-owned file

CNET staff

The standalone version of the Apple iPod 2.01 updater has been reported to leave behind a folder at the root level of the system boot volume named "User Guides And Information." This folder is owned by root, and it cannot be deleted or modified by a regular user, even one in the admin group.

To modify the permissions of this folder so that you have control over it, use one of the following two methods. Both require an admin account.
  • Download BatChmod and drop the folder onto its window. Choose your username, click Apply and provide your password.
  • Open Terminal and type sudo chown your-user-name:admin /User G and press TAB. The rest of the folder's name will auto-complete. Press RETURN. Provide your password.

You should now be able to manipulate that folder and its contents.

This issue is definitively known to affect the standalone downloadable disk image of the iPod 2.01 updater with checksum CRC32 $8E82CD8B.
