Apple acknowledges MacBook (13", White) palmrest discoloration as support issue

CNET staff

We've extensively reported on an issue where the MacBook's case become discolored around the palmrest area and other spots (usually with an orange/brown/yellow color). It appears that this issue is caused by a chemical reaction in the plastic with skin oils.

We also noted several solutions for protecting MacBooks from the stains as well as cleaning them.

Though Apple made previous statements to the press acknowledging this issue, the company has now officially posted a support document indicating that users noticing discoloration should contact AppleCare for service.

For more coverage, see our MacBook (13") special report.
