Apple 17" Flat-panel LCD software install glitch

The software installer that comes with Apple's new 17" LCS screen probably will not work on any but the newest machines. J. Arch Getty writes: "Because I have a G4/450 AGP Sawtooth, I'm using Geffen Extendit. The display is beautiful, but the enclosed Apple Display Software (version 2.1) won't install. Instead the installer reports that this program cannot run on your Mac. Apple Tech Support isn't sure why the software won't install, but they said the installer is probably looking for the ADP card, which only the newer Macs have. Bottom line: with an older G4 and an adapter, you won't get any brightness control. Otherwise, works great." We have yet to hear if bypassing the installer and installing the components with TomeViewer will allow the brightness control to work.
