Appearance Extension Patch (for those who prefer 2-D to 3-D)

Reader Dieder Bylsma likes Mac OS 8 but does not particularly like the 3-D icons that predominate throughout the desktop. Unfortunately, the icons are created via the Appearance Extension, which (as stated in the Mac OS 8 Technote just mentioned) cannot be de-installed. Dieder's solution was to patch the Appearance Extension to rid it of the 3-D icons, forcing the OS to revert back to the 2-D icons still built into the System and Finder files.

My guess is that most people will be happy to leave the 3-D icons in place. But if you want to rid yourself of them, you can download Dieder's Appearance Extension Patch [96K] by clicking here.
