Make sure Aperture is in /Applications folder before updating On numerous occasions, we've noted the importance of leaving applications -- particularly Apple applications -- in their correct directories (usually /Applications or /Applications/Utilities). The reasons for doing so are many, but one of the most pressing is with regard to updates. If an application updater, or major system update cannot find the appropriate files to modify, various issues can ensue.

Such is the case with Aperture 1.5.2: the Aperture application must be located in the /Applications directory (where it was originally installed) in order to be properly updated.

Notes about new functionality Apple has some useful notes about making use of the new features in Aperture 1.5.2 added to the Aperture manual (in PDF). Of particular interest:

"When Aperture is opened, it begins updating previews for those projects whose Maintain Previews setting is enabled. [...] This can cause problems if a project contains damaged files or images in unsupported file formats. In Aperture 1.5.2, you can suppress preview generation when opening Aperture, allowing you to more easily identify the damaged image files. To do this, press the Shift key while opening Aperture. You can also cancel the current preview maintenance operation using the Background Task List window."

Significant performance improvements A number of users are reporting significant performance improvements after applying the Aperture 1.5.2 updater, particular with regard to rendering of RAW images.
